What does it do?

Thrush is a fungal infection, commonly caused by a type of yeast called candida. Although candida is naturally present in the body, an imbalance can trigger thrush symptoms. Side effects of fluconazole

As with any medicine, there are side effects. Although a serious allergic reaction to fluconazole is rare. Common side effects (occurring in one in ten patients) include nausea, stomach discomfort, diarrhoea, wind, rash and headache. However, these side effects are usually mild and don't tend to last long. If symptoms persist, or are particularly severe, contact your doctor.

When not to take fluconazole

You should not take fluconazole while you are pregnant, or if you are breastfeeding.

Do not take fluconazole if you've ever had an allergic reaction to any of its ingredients or any other medicines which you have taken to treat a fungal infection.

Tell your doctor before taking fluconazole if:

  • Have liver or kidney problems.
  • Suffer from heart disease, including heart rhythm problems.
  • Have abnormal levels of potassium, calcium, or magnesium in your blood.

Tell your doctor about any other medicines you are taking, or have recently taken before taking fluconazole.

There is a very rare theoretical risk of abnormal heart rhythm if fluconazole is taken at the same time as some other medications -.

Ventura®(diflucan, fluconazole, fluconazole capsules) is a medicine used to treat fungal infections such as athlete's foot, ringworm, and jock itch. It is often given to children as a treatment for an infection in infancy. It is also used to treat candidiasis (a red, inflamed, pus-filled, hairy, and irritated skin) in adults.

Ventura® is manufactured by the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. The active ingredient is Diflucan. It is available as a cream, suppository, oral tablet, or cream and as a vaginal suppository.

Ventura® is not for use by women. The active ingredient in Ventura® is Diflucan. Women should not use this medicine as it is not approved for use by women.

Uses

Ventura® is used for the treatment of fungal skin infections such as athlete's foot, ringworm, and jock itch.

Ventura® is also used to treat fungal infections of the skin such as:

  • athlete's foot
  • athlete's foot and jock itch
  • pustules and pustules
  • dermatitis (scaly, blisters on the skin)
  • dermatitis caused by athlete's foot

Warnings

Ventura® should not be given to:

  • women with vaginal yeast infections
  • women with vaginal candidiasis
  • men with vaginal itching and burning sensations
  • men with candidiasis or thrush
  • men with vaginal yeast infections

Ventura® may cause a serious side effect calledbenign prostatic hyperplasiaorbenign enlargement of the prostate gland. If this occurs in a woman taking an NSAID, she should consult a doctor before taking Ventura®. It is not known if this side effect occurs in women. Women should not use Ventura® while they are taking an NSAID.

Before taking this medicine

Ventura® is to be used by the following women:

  • if you are pregnant
  • if you are breastfeeding
  • if you are taking cisapride (for treatment of fungal skin infections)
  • if you are planning to become pregnant or are planning to breast feed
  • if you are not breastfeeding

Ventura® should not be used by women who are pregnant or who are breastfeeding.

Women with a history of breast-feeding should not take this medicine. It is not known if this medicine passes into breast milk. It should not be taken by women who are breast feeding.

Ventura® may interact with other medicines and may cause unwanted side effects. You should inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription, over the counter medicines, and herbal medicines, before using this medicine.

How to use

Ventura® is usually given once a day, with or without food. It is usually given once the symptoms have been gone or it is not necessary to give the medication. The dose should not be increased more than once a day. For children, the dose should be the same as for adults. Your doctor may increase your dose or prescribe a different medicine. Ventura® is to be taken at a time every day.

Ventura® should be given with food, preferably before a meal. If it is not given with a meal, you should wait at least 4 hours before taking Ventura®. Take the tablet with a glass of water, as this can affect how long it stays in your body.
